Major General Hank Landry is the incumbent commanding officer at Stargate Command.

History

A pilot in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, Hank Landry lived a career of quiet competence that eventually saw him appointed as the new commander of Stargate Command. He was specifically chosen by his superior, Jack O'Neill, who regarded Landry as "better for the job than I was", closer in temprament and integrity to General George Hammond, in contrast to the likes of Henry Bauer or Elizabeth Weir who had been selected based on political rather than practical criteria.  (SG1: "Chain Reaction", "Lost City, Part 1", "New Order, Part 2", "Avalon, Part 1")

Under his purview, Stargate Command transitioned from a war with the Goa'uld to a war with the Ori, and shifted from an organisation with a handful of teams and offworld bases to one with fully-fledged outposts, a fleet of starships, and a sense of responsibility towards not just the Milky Way, but the Pegasus Galaxy as well. In the face of declining interest and investment from the United States government, Landry was also responsible for the formation of the International Oversight Advisory, an organisation created to allocate international funding to different aspects of the Stargate Program. When the SGC's lease arrangement with Russia for control of the Stargate was due to expire, Landry negotiated an extension, forced to gift Russia the BC-304 Korolev in the process, although the ship was promptly destroyed.  (SG1: "Origin", "The Ties That Bind", "Off the Grid", "Crusade", "Camelot", "No Man's Land"; ATL: "The Intruder"; SGU: "Air, Part 1"; SGR: "The Arrow")

When the Atlantis Expedition was forced to leave Atlantis by the returning crew of the Ancient ship Tria, General Landry made efforts to integrate the returning personnel into Stargate Command as best he could. Many of the expedition's scientists were assigned to Area 51, and some of the military personnel were added to the SGC's personnel roster — such as Colonel John Sheppard, placed in command of SG-4 — while others were distributed across the SGC's offworld facilities, particularly the Beta Site.  (ATL: "The Return, Part 1"; SGR: "The Arrow")

In an alternate timeline visited by Colonel Carter, Landry was President of the United States in a world where the Stargate Program had become public knowledge, and its military assets are used to maintain order. In another, created by Ba'al through an act of time travel, Landry was responsible for informing a displaced SG-1 that they would not be allowed to "fix" the timeline, and would be forced to remain and adopt civilian lives.  (SG1: "The Road Not Taken"; Continuum)
