Benjamin Fischer

Lieutenant Benjamin Fischer is a member of the United States Air Force, stationed at the Beta Site.
History
During the early stages of the Ori Crusade, Lieutenant Fischer was a member of SG-6. During an undercover operation on P2X-885, monitoring Prior activity during an attempted conversion, the Prior made physical contact with Fischer during a prostration ceremony. Thinking nothing of it, Fischer excluded the detail from his report; returning to Earth, it was discovered that Fischer had been made patient zero for the Prior Plague, and inadvertently precipitated a pandemic on Earth that claimed the lives of thousands, including the rest of SG-6. Though Stargate Command concluded that Fischer was in no way resposible for being the Trojan horse that the Priors had used to sneak their plague onto Earth, Fischer himself was not so easily convinced. The experience undermined his previous confidence and light-hearted nature, replaced instead by a grim desire to stoically readdress his imagined karma one saved life at a time. With variations of the Prior Plague springing up on other worlds as well, Fischer requested a transfer to the Beta Site, allowing him to aid refugees and assist in innoculation efforts to try and forestall "his" plague. The unfortunate consequence of feeling guilt over something that is in no way one's fault is that it proves particularly difficult to dislodge.
This mix of Patient Zero guilt and survivor's guilt formed the basis of a relationship between Fischer and his direct superior, Captain Carl Grogan, who years earlier had also been the sole survivor of his own team, and struggled with a desire to make amends ever since. The two gravitated towards working together on numerous missions, including the evacuation of P3X-367. (SGR: "The Arrow")
