Major General Martin Kennedy is the Director of the National Intelligence Department.

History

Shortly after the formation of Stargate Command, Colonel Martin Kennedy was assigned by the NID to oversee the interrogation of Teal'c, the former First Prime of Apophis. Kennedy strongly advocated for both Teal'c and his symbiote to be studied at Langley — potentially by the Air Force, NASA, and/or the CIA — and urged for Major Charles Kawalsky to remain host to the Goa'uld that had entered him on Chulak as a potential intelligence resource.  (SG1: "The Enemy Within")

A few months later, Kennedy had been promoted, and replaced as liaison to the SGC by Colonel Harry Maybourne.  (SG1: "The Enemy Within")

By the time of the Ori Crusade, Kennedy had become Director of the NID. Despite extensive scrutiny by the CIA, Kennedy was not found to have any culpability in the activities of the Rogue NID and The Trust; in fact the investigations were ultimately to his benefit, his predecessor as Director resigning to save face and leaving the position vacant. Kennedy continued to advocate for a harsh Earth-first attitude by the Stargate Program, but with many of the NID's direct responsibilities repositioned as part of the Stargate Command and Homeworld Security structures, and with the IOA providing alternative oversight for the Program, the NID and Kennedy were expected to become increasingly irrelevant. Despite this, briefing the NID on current and ongoing Stargate operations was still standard practice for Homeworld Security.  (SGR: "The Arrow")
