Colonel Ian Davidson is a member of the United States Air Force, and commander of the Odyssey.

History

Colonel Davidson had initially been selected to command the fourth BC-304 Battlecruiser, the second to be built at the offworld facility on PB3-865 originally created for the construction of Odyssey. Stargate Command had originally intended to allow Odyssey a proper shakedown before work on the next Battlecruiser began, with construction projected to take at least a year; after the Russians used continued access to the Stargate to leverage control of the Korolev, however, construction on this new Battlecruiser was fast-tracked, under Davidson's direct supervision.  (SG1: "Crusade"; SGR: "The Arrow")

When Colonel Paul Emerson was killed by members of the Lucian Alliance, the Office of Homeworld Security selected Davidson as his replacement. Davidson was favoured over Colonel Abraham Ellis, the next commander in line for an Earth-launched BC-304, mostly due to the faster progress that had been made on the offworld Battlecruiser: a result of not being bottlenecked by the logistical challenges of covertly transporting construction resources from offworld mining sites to Area 51. His replacement as commander of the as-yet unnamed Battlecruiser was a topic of much debate and speculation, though Davidson himself had no strong opinions or predictions on the matter.  (SG1: "Company of Thieves", "Family Ties"; SGR: "The Arrow")
