History

For generations, the People of P3X-367 had lived at an Ancient Outpost on their world, in the hills overlooking the Stargate. During her exile from the System Lords, the Goa'uld Nirrti happened upon the outpost and the Ancient technology within, and determined it would prove useful in her effots to create a Hok'tar. Infecting the population with a mysterious illness that killed many, she then positioned herself as a benevolent god there to heal the sick, experimenting on their genetics in order to do so. Many of her test subjects gained extrasensory abilities, in line with those achieved by Humans as they progressed towards Ascension; but Nirrti's ham-fisted efforts resulted in physical disfigurement, and in some cases a complete instability in their genome. Eggar gained the power of telepathy, which he used at the prompting of SG-1 to probe Nirrti's true intentions for his people, and then extract the knowledge necessary to cure his bretheren before Nirrti could be killed by the telekinesis of Wodan.  (SG1: "Metamorphosis")

While Eggar was able to extract the knowledge of how to cure the others experimented upon by Nirrti, there was a difference between taking that knowledge and instinct, and having the understanding to actually teach someone else to go through the process. Tragically then, while Eggar was able to use the the Ancient device on 367 on everyone else, he was unable to use it upon himself, nor teach anyone to use it on him. While SG-1 had shown a desire to study the device and learn how it functioned, it was decided by Nirrti's subjects that the device was too dangerous to remain operational, and so Eggar made the sacrifice of remaining how he was so that the machine could be destroyed. Fortunately, Eggar's genome was stable enough for him to survive, but his disfigurement served as an uncomfortable reminder of what his people had gone through, and with his telepathic abilities he could not escape that fact no matter how much effort his peers actively put in to trying to make him feel welcome and accepted.

When P3X-367 began to accept refugees from other worlds into their community at the request of Stargate Command, Eggar's situation subtly changed. On the one hand, his disfigurement went from painful reminder for many to merely a strange curiosity for some, but more importantly his insights into others and their unspoken perspectives gave him a unique perspective that made him the perfect mediator. While he did not necessarily feel a full part of the community, his abilities made him an integral part of holding that community together in a functional way, and so feeling useful became an acceptable proxy for feeling accepted. By the time of the planet's evacuation during the Ori Crusade, Eggar was considered to be one of the village elders.  (SGR: "The Arrow")
